Archdiocese of Washington, Catholic Schools Office – 2018 To create a new full-time position, the Hispanic Enrollment Outreach Coordinator, at the Catholic Schools Office. The coordinator will support archdiocesan schools with recruitment and retention of Hispanic students, and execute a Spanish-language outreach and marketing plan.
BEACON for Adult Literacy – 2015, 2016 To support the expansion of its English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program to meet the growing needs of adult English language learners in Prince William County, VA. The ESOL program incorporates job readiness and employment search support for advanced students.
Boston College Roche Center for Catholic Education – 2016 To support the National Summit on Catholic Schools and Hispanic Families, a three-day gathering of professionals from the fields of Catholic education and Hispanic Ministry – including advocates, researchers, educators, practitioners, philanthropic leaders, and diocesan personnel – with the purpose of exploring how Catholic schools can better serve Hispanic families and children over the next ten years.
Capital Partners for Education – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support college completion programming (2019). Capital Partners for Education prepares and supports first-generation and under-resourced students in the Greater Washington region on their journeys to and through college.
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, Spanish Catholic Center – 2019 To plan and execute an online and in-classroom hybrid English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instruction model targeting students in high-level ESOL classes. To increase retention and the percentage of students passing the class.
Catholic University of America – 2019 To support Take Flight, a first-year transition program designed for students who are the first in their families to attend college in the United States. This program includes community building, academic coaching, and campus empowerment activities designed to improve the retention and support of first-generation students.
College Success Foundation-District of Columbia – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support a new Career Preparation Advisor for scholars graduating from college (2019). College Success Foundation prepares and supports first-generation and under-resourced students in the Greater Washington region on their journeys to and through college.
CollegeTracks – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support a CollegeTracks College Success Coach (2019). CollegeTracks prepares and supports first-generation and under-resourced students in Montgomery County, MD on their journeys to and through college.
Collegiate Directions – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support college completion programming (2019). Collegiate Directions prepares and supports first-generation and under-resourced students in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC on their journeys to and through college.
Excelencia in Education – 2019 To support the Ensuring America’s Future project increasing college completion of Latino students and the Accelerating Latino Student Success (ALASS) Institute for college leaders.
GALA Hispanic Theatre – 2019 To support the Paso Nuevo after-school program which enables Latino youth to develop self-confidence, explore their personal and cultural identity, resolve conflicts in nonviolent ways, and acquire communication and critical thinking skills.
Generation Hope – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support Generation Hope’s College Completion Manager and the Hope Conference (2019). Generation Hope prepares and supports teen parents in the Greater Washington region on their journeys to and through college. Generation Hope also helps the children of teen parents succeed in kindergarten.
La Cocina – 2016, 2017 To produce a 13-week English-language curriculum focused on the most essential vocabulary and English skills needed for success in the culinary arts (2016). To develop a customized vocabulary mobile app for students that integrates vocabulary content from the culinary arts, food safety, job readiness, financial literacy, and nutrition (2017).
Latino Student Fund – 2016-2020 To expand and build the capacity of the Access and Listo Rápido programs, which provide academic support, college prep services, and independent/parochial school guidance for Hispanic students in grades K through 12 and their families (2016). To support the Access program, translate key communications materials into Spanish, including the website, and create bilingual videos highlighting organizational success stories, and a challenge grant to increase individual fundraising (2017-2018). To administer the Crimsonbridge Foundation’s Education Imperative, which provides scholarships to Latino students who wish to attend a Catholic school in the Greater Washington region (2019-2020).
Literacy Council of Frederick County – 2019 To provide classes to adults working in the leisure, hospitality, health, and social assistance industries in Frederick County. The classes are located at the workers’ place of employment, during paid work hours, and are tailored to increase opportunities for work-based credentials, job advancement, and provide transferable skills.
Literacy Council of Montgomery County – 2015, 2016 To support the expansion of its English for Speakers of Other Languages programs to meet the growing needs of adult English language learners in Montgomery County, MD.
Literacy Council of Northern Virginia – 2018, 2019 To expand the Destination Workforce hospitality program and to develop a new Destination Workforce curriculum for the restaurant industry. The curriculum will include a distance learning component. Destination Workforce teaches adults the English skills they need to improve their employability and to empower them to participate more fully and confidently in the workplace.
MDRC – 2017 To support the Latino Academic Transfer and Institutional Degree Opportunities (LATIDO) project to convene a roundtable of experts, develop a policy brief, and case studies report on how higher education institutions can best serve Latino students.
Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy – 2018, 2019 To support new adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) learning opportunities for underserved populations in Montgomery County, MD. MCAEL will connect with local organizations to identify needs in the community and will develop a culturally competent plan to develop additional ESOL services.
New Futures – 2018, 2019 To provide general operating support as a selected and participating member of the College Completion Colleagues (C3) Initiative (2018). To support New Futures Scholars Program Manager (2019). New Futures prepares and supports first-generation and under-resourced students in the Greater Washington region on their journeys to and through college.
Prince George’s Community College Foundation, Inc. – 2016, 2017 To launch the English Language Learners Transitions Initiative to increase the number of English language learners who are aware of and prepared for enrollment in the college’s many academic and workforce training programs (2016). To support a new course offering at PGCC: Introduction to Culinary Careers and Servsafe certification for English language learners (2017).
Serving Our Children – 2016-2018 To administer the Crimsonbridge Foundation’s Education Imperative, which provides scholarships to Latino students who wish to attend a Catholic school in the Greater Washington region. The Fund provides scholarships at schools that are working to increase Latino enrollment and better serve current Latino students and their families.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL) – 2016-2018 To enable an innovative, multi-year, public-private partnership with Teach For America – DC Region (TFA) to train teachers in Mind, Brain, and Education Science. TFA teachers participate in an annual, year-long professional development program and the CTTL’s trademark summer Academy.
St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth, and Families – 2017 To pilot an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program to supplement the Education and Employment Program, which provides services to women continuing their education or seeking employment.
Teach for America, DC Region – 2016-2018 To enable the innovative, multi-year, public-private partnership with the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL) at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. TFA teachers are trained in Mind, Brain, and Education Science through an annual, year-long professional development program and the CTTL’s trademark summer Academy.
The Family Place Public Charter School – 2018, 2019 To expand the capacity of the evening English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program, which serves adults who have very low English language proficiency. The grants will enable the Family Place to hire an additional teacher, serve more students, and provide more individualized instruction.
University of Notre Dame, Latino Enrollment Institute – 2017, 2018 To lead the Latino Enrollment Institute (LEI), a professional development conference, for Catholic school leaders in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC. The purpose of the LEI is to motivate and teach more than 100 principals, pastors, and school staff specific strategies to attract and serve Latino students and families more effectively (2017). To support a Principal Mentorship Program for principals who participated in the LEI.
Washington English Center – 2015, 2016 To support the expansion of its adult English for Speakers of Other Languages program, which integrates computer literacy and workforce preparation.
Center for Nonprofit Advancement – 2020 To provide financial support for professionals of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the Executive Preparation Institute.
Community Bridges Incorporated – 2018 To advance leadership and empowerment programming for girls. Community Bridges supports under-resourced and immigrant girls in Montgomery County, MD in grades 4 through 12 through after- and out-of-school programs, college and career programs, and mentoring.
Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership – 2016-2020 To support the Crimsonbridge Leadership Fund which provides financial support for senior staff of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to attend the Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program. To work in partnership with the Foundation in extensive and strategic outreach to help recruit diverse nonprofit leaders.
Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital – 2020 To support the "Girl Scouts Leadership Experience" for girls in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital seeks to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Girls on the Run of Montgomery County – 2020 To support elementary and middle school girls' leadership development. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that addresses girls' social, emotional, and physical needs by teaching life skills and core values for living a physically active and healthy lifestyle.
Institute for Women's Policy Research – 2020 To support the IWPR Research and Action Hub's virtual roundtable on women's leadership. The Institute for Women's Policy Research is a national think tank that builds evidence to shape policies that grow women's power and leadership and improve the economic well-being of families.
Latino Economic Development Center – 2018 To support the Empowered Women International program, which trains under-resourced, predominantly immigrant and refugee, women entrepreneurs.
Leadership Greater Washington – 2017-2020 To provide financial support for young professionals of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the Rising Leaders Program. To work in partnership with the Foundation on extensive and strategic outreach to help identify and recruit diverse emerging talent in the nonprofit sector.
Leadership Montgomery – 2019, 2020 To provide financial support for young professionals of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program. To work in partnership with the Foundation on extensive and strategic outreach to help identify and recruit diverse emerging talent in the nonprofit sector.
She Should Run – 2018, 2019, 2020 To advance women's empowerment and leadership programming (2018, 2019) and support a virtual cohort training program (2020). She Should Run expands the talent pool of women running for office in the United States. Women of diverse political views, ethnicities, and backgrounds receive training and participate in leadership development programming through virtual and local support communities.
Washington Area Women's Foundation, Inc. – 2018, 2019, 2020 To support the annual "GirlsLEAD: By Girls, For Girls" event, informed by the Young Women's Advisory Council fellowship for young women and gender-expansive youth of color (2018, 2019). To support the leadership development of young women of color through the Rock Star Fund (2020).
Washington School for Girls – 2019, 2020 To support the "Courageous Women, Compassionate Leaders" Program for elementary and middle school girls, which helps students' leadership development from early stages.
Archdiocese of Washington, Secretariat of Communications – 2019 To build the capacity of the Archdiocese of Washington to connect with the Hispanic community. To create a new full-time position, the Hispanic Communications Specialist, who will work to integrate the Spanish language into all communications, marketing, and media at the Archdiocese of Washington.
Ayuda – 2019 To engage in internal and external Census 2020 outreach to educate community members on the significance of the Census and increase accessibility to Census completion resources. To ensure a more accurate Census by reaching hard-to-count communities.
Bridges for Schools – 2018-2020 To provide strategic communications capacity building support to Catholic schools committed to increasing their enrollment of Hispanic students and to cultivating a welcoming and engaging environment for Hispanic families. Bridges for Schools partners include Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle, Academy of the Holy Cross, Blessed Sacrament School, Elizabeth Seton High School, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, Holy Redeemer School, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Sacred Heart School, Saint Francis International School, St. Ambrose Catholic School, St. Andrew Apostle School, St. John the Evangelist, St. Joseph’s Regional Catholic School, St. Mary’s School of Landover Hills, St. Michael’s School, and St. Raphael School.
Catalogue for Philanthropy Greater Washington – 2017, 2018 To support the Catalogue for Philanthropy’s Learning Commons program, an intensive capacity-building series of trainings and workshops for the Catalogue’s extensive network of nonprofits in the Greater Washington region.
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles – 2017 To redesign the website and develop a comprehensive Spanish-language microsite. The microsite will be an important resource for under-resourced Hispanic families, who represent over 60% of Catholic Charities’ clients, and for Spanish-speaking individuals seeking access to essential services and education opportunities.
Children’s National Medical Center – 2015 To hire a bilingual web consultant to oversee the development of a Spanish-language microsite, including Spanish-language video content. The purpose of the microsite is to inform Latino families about the services available at Children’s National and to make sure these services are accessible as part of Children’s National’s Latino Initiative.
Child Trends – 2015, 2016 To collaborate on the development of a research-informed guide designed to help service providers and educators build communication strategies to more easily and effectively reach out to Latino families and children. Reaching and Engaging with Hispanic Communities: A Research-Informed Communication Guide for Nonprofits, Policymakers, and Funders was presented at the Communications Network’s Annual Conference in 2016 and to date it has been shared with thousands of professionals throughout the United States.
City Blossoms – 2016 To hire a consultant to support the leadership transition from founding co-executive directors to a single executive director model, through executive coaching, board development, and training.
DC SCORES – 2018 To create and implement a Spanish-language communications plan to enhance DC SCORES’ outreach to and engagement of Latino families. The effort will include creating original Spanish-language marketing resources, video, mass text messaging, and a newsletter for parents.
Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities (FADICA) – 2018 To conduct national research on innovation in parishes, through the lens of Hispanic Ministry, Young Adults, Women and Women Religious in Leadership, and the “Welcoming Role” of parishes. The research will identify replicable high-impact models, equipping and empowering FADICA members, other donors, and parish stakeholders with tools to support vibrant parish life.
Georgetown University, Georgetown Scholarship Program – 2016 To develop a new website and marketing brand for the Georgetown Scholarship Program (GSP). The new website will enable GSP to shine a light on its innovative programs and successful outcomes, and make information more accessible for students and parents.
Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital – 2017, 2018 To support increased outreach to Latina girls in the Greater Washington region. Girl Scouts will develop a Spanish-language microsite, including four short videos, and translate registration materials and important program information (2017). To expand the Encuentro de Chicas Latinas de las Girl Scouts, a leadership conference for Latina girls in grades 6 through 12, designed to inspire and recognize their abilities and become active in their schools and communities (2018).
Girls on the Run Montgomery County – 2017 To create a Spanish-language microsite with videos informing Spanish-speaking parents about Girls on the Run events and programming. Girls on the Run Montgomery County, MD won a national pace-setter award for this work, and their microsite now serves as a template for Girls on the Run councils across the country to build Spanish-language microsites.
Identity, Inc. – 2019 To create a Census 2020 awareness and outreach strategy to be implemented in hard-to-count areas of Montgomery County, MD. To support out-of-school-time STEM opportunities for Latino youth to expand students’ perceptions of the world and career opportunities.
Latin American Youth Center – 2015, 2019 To design a new, bilingual website to better reach members of the community in English and Spanish (2015). To engage youth to learn about the census and design a plan to increase local participation and awareness. Youth will develop bilingual outreach materials and execute a Census 2020 campaign in DC (2019).
Liberty’s Promise – 2019 To add a census education component to their civic engagement program. To engage youth in the program to develop and execute a Census 2020 outreach plan designed to increase response rates in Gaithersburg, MD.
Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care – 2019 To identify and train Census Champions from among their staff to lead efforts throughout the organization to educate and motivate staff and community members around Census 2020. To ensure a more accurate census by reaching hard-to-count communities.
St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth and Families – 2015 To create a Spanish-language microsite on its newly redesigned website, to better serve its growing Spanish-speaking client base.
