Summer Postsecondary Research Fellowships on AI and Civic Engagement

Did you know that a unique partnership between Grantmakers for Education (GFE) and the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE) has created more than 35 research-informed resources for postsecondary funders?
This summer, SREE graduate researchers will engage in ten-week fellowships to explore innovations and seek solutions on issues of interest today.
As the co-chair of GFE’s Postsecondary Impact group, Crimsonbridge Senior Program Officer, Robyn Ellis will work alongside summer fellows to produce original research that will serve as added resources for the field of philanthropy. Two research projects put forward by the Impact group will investigate: 1) strategies for civic engagement on college campuses and in workforce training programs and 2) the impact of AI across postsecondary education.
An active member of GFE, Crimsonbridge has previously partnered with SREE to work with researchers on addressing real-world questions. In 2025, Crimsonbridge investigated strategies for Reengaging 40 Million US Adults that Have Some College And No Degree and in 2024, this partnership produced a scan of Fostering Student Belonging and Connectedness in College. These resources are also available for funders looking for a primer on effective strategies in postsecondary education.
For GFE members looking to add research capacity and inform future grantmaking, the summer SREE research fellowship program is a helpful way to learn and create resources for other philanthropists. The GFE-SREE partnership also provides opportunities for PhD candidates and professional education professionals to explore under-researched areas and make new connections.
