Washington, DC – Four years ago, the Crimsonbridge Foundation announced its first round of environmental sustainability grants to five local organizations during Earth Month. Since then, the Foundation has steadily grown its work in sustainability to include tree canopy expansion, water quality restoration, biodiversity and native plant promotion, conservation training and volunteerism, and green workforce development. It now counts more than 18 nonprofit organizations as partners in the vitally important work of caring for our common home.
This year, in advance of Earth Month 2026, the foundation team made three strategic shifts to further develop its environmental sustainability program. First, it doubled the funding available to address this work. Second, it incorporated network building to foster greater collaboration with and among partners. Third, the foundation extended its geographic reach to include the Chesapeake Bay Watershed – a recognition that the environmental challenges do not follow jurisdictional lines, and that durable solutions require approaches that consider the scale of the ecosystem itself.
The result is the Foundation’s largest environmental sustainability grant round to date. This year the Crimsonbridge Foundation has allocated nearly $300,000 to 13 organizations including Baltimore Tree Trust, Casey Trees, Nature Forward, Potomac Conservancy, Potomac Riverkeeper, Rock Creek Conservancy, Saint Kateri Conservation Center, Student Conservation Association, Sustainability Matters, and Ward 8 Woods Conservancy. Additionally, it has joined the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network and provided support to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and the Choose Clean Water Coalition to support convenings that will provide professional development and network building to hundreds of professionals and advocates working throughout the Watershed.

Regarding the Foundation’s developing strategy, President & CEO Danielle M. Reyes noted “This year also called for a rapid response to the sewage spill in the Potomac River. Crimsonbridge reached out to support front line organizations leading water quality monitoring, building public awareness, and strengthening oversight of wastewater infrastructure.”
“Successful environmental sustainability strategies will positively impact the quality of life for millions of people,” said Crimsonbridge Foundation Founder and Executive Chair Gabriela Smith. “We hope this growing body of work will continue to make measurable improvements throughout the region for people and for the environment.”
Established in 2015, Crimsonbridge Foundation is an entrepreneurial philanthropic partner committed to going beyond grantmaking to collaborate with community partners in Education, Leadership, Environmental Sustainability, and Catholic Initiatives to create transformative solutions that improve the lives of our nation’s youth and families.
