Bringing the 1848 Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention into the 21st Century

Guest post by Cynthia Richie Terrell, Represent Women

This September, Women and Girls Leadership and Civic Engagement partner, RepresentWomen unveiled their new bipartisan initiative to update the landmark 1848 Seneca Falls convention on women’s rights. In collaboration with She Should Run (another partner) and other organizations, Executive Director and Founder Cynthia Richie Terrell shares what this update means:

Our new declaration amplifies the voices of women historically excluded from the political process, advocates for unity across party lines to support women candidates, and proposes concrete systemic reforms to increase women’s representation in office.

I invite you to sign the 2024 Declaration of Sentiments and affirm your commitment to systems-wide reforms that support women in office, like:

  • Ranked Choice Voting at all levels of government,

  • using campaign funds for childcare and security,

  • empowering community leaders to run for office, and

  • improving access to the ballot box in marginalized communities.
